I read this book: The Best of Times: Growing up in Britain in the 1950s by Alison Pressley.
'Not every family could afford to take holidays: money was tight after the war, rationing was still in place - at least at the beginning of the decade - and not many people had private transport. But many did manage. The idea of the family holiday really took off in the 1950s. And if the holiday wasn't in an exotic resort, and if it consisted of a week in a caravan or boarding house at a dour seaside town or a series of day trips in the rain, it was nevertheless magic for us children. Golden memories of childhood holidays don't need sun, or foreign climes or cuisines; they just need that glorious sense of freedom, or not-school, not-home, of difference - different streets, different smells, different names - to add up to juvenile paradise.'

Here is some unemployed behaviour that rarely sees the light of day.
These illustrations were completed as part of the Plymouth Design Forum's 400x400 Design Challenges in 2019 and 2020. This project was a productive focus between teaching opportunities after returning to the UK and in Japan. The collaborative element of this creative process was an unusual way to connect with strangers and to reconnect with old flames, some of whom I had not sparked with for a very long time.

Raging Speedhorn performed at the Waterfront Studio, Norwich, UK. The first time I saw this band was back when they released We Will Be Dead Tomorrow. They played at JFKs in Plymouth, UK (a venue that may have been renamed C103 by that time). Tight exchanges and exceptional synergy between the two vocalists as they ploughed through old and new material with ease. It was killer to hear some tracks from the first couple of albums. I was hoping for The Hate Song during the encore but you cannot get everything you want. I left my dice at home and drank one non-alcoholic beer. Am I evil or mental?
